How to apply nasal strips: clean, centre and press

A good nasal strip routine begins before you peel the backing. Taking a moment to prepare your skin and check the position is more useful than trying to make a poorly placed strip work with extra pressure.

For TONE, keep the sequence simple: clean and dry, peel and centre, then press and seal. The aim is comfortable, even contact across the outside of your nose. You are not trying to stretch your skin or cover the nostril openings.

Before you open the pouch

Choose a moment when you can see your nose clearly in a mirror. Wash and dry your hands, and have one strip ready. TONE strips measure 66 × 19 mm; Ivory, Honey and Cacao have the same shape, so the application method does not change with your shade.

Read the instructions supplied with your product as well. If any pack-specific direction differs from a general guide, follow the current product instructions. Do not apply adhesive over broken, irritated or sore skin, and do not use another strip to cover a reaction from a previous one.

Step 1: clean and dry

Clean the outside of your nose, then allow the surface to dry fully. Pay attention to the sides where the ends will sit, not only the centre of the bridge. A face that looks dry may still have a layer of cream or oil in the application area.

If skincare is part of your routine, keep moisturiser and other leave-on products away from the strip's contact area before applying. Do not place the strip over foundation just to improve the colour match. Start with a clean surface; you can assess the shade more honestly and avoid adding a slippery layer underneath.

Step 2: peel and centre

Remove the backing and handle the strip carefully so you are not repeatedly touching the adhesive. Hold it near the nose before making contact. Use the mirror to check that it sits evenly from side to side, following the shape shown in the TONE application images.

Centre the strip across the nose, just above the nostril flare, with the ends resting against the sides. Keep the tip and nostril openings clear. If you are unsure of the position, compare with the TONE application images before pressing the strip into place.

Step 3: press and seal

Press along the strip and its ends to establish even contact. Take care around the contours of your nose so an edge is not left folded or lifted. Pressing is different from pulling; do not deliberately stretch the strip or tug your skin sideways.

Check the result in the mirror once more. The strip should follow your nose rather than twist across it. If it is badly positioned or no longer sticks after repeated handling, use a fresh strip instead of adding tape, glue or another strip on top.

If an edge starts to lift

Look first at preparation and placement. Was the skin fully dry? Was there skincare underneath? Did one end land in a crease, or was the adhesive handled repeatedly? These questions are more useful than assuming the answer is always to press harder.

An even seal helps the strip sit securely against your nose. Adhesion can vary with skin preparation and wear conditions. Do not add household adhesives or try to repair a worn strip. Each strip is single use; once removed, discard it.

Check comfort, not just appearance

External strips and internal nasal dilators are different formats, as Cleveland Clinic explains. Keep your TONE strip outside the nose.

If the strip causes discomfort or irritation, remove it gently and stop using it. Itching or burning is not a sign that the product is working. The NHS contact dermatitis guide explains skin symptoms that deserve attention.

Application questions

Can I lift the same strip and try again?

Avoid repeated lifting and re-sticking. If you cannot achieve the correct position or an even seal, remove it gently and start with a fresh strip.

Should I put it on before or after moisturiser?

Apply it to clean, dry skin without moisturiser underneath the adhesive contact area. Keep the preparation step simple.

How many strips are in a pouch?

There are 30 single-use strips, a 30-day supply at one fresh strip per day. Using more than one fresh strip in a day uses the supply sooner. Follow the wear directions on your pouch and discard each strip after use.
